Project in Progress
Guardians are taught to include a client in all decisions made on his or her behalf. Doing so generally means spending time with the individual and learning about their history, values and wishes, and when a decision needs to be made, meeting with the person to explain the decision in great detail, ascertain the person’s understanding, and ask the person’s preference. During COVID, for many guardians, this routine was impossible. This qualitative study examines the experience of guardians during COVID, particularly their ability to discuss decisions with a client in order to advocate for the client’s wishes.
